Google has removed Blockify from the Chrome Web Store and suspended its publisher account. We believe that is an unexplained and disproportionate use of enforcement power.
We respect the need for strong marketplace policies. But enforcement should be accurate, specific, and possible to remedy in good faith. Based on the information supplied to us, this action was not.
What Google told us
The specific item-level notice we received cited the Chrome Web Store's Single Purpose policy.
It described Blockify's stated purpose as:
“ad blocking”
It then described an alleged additional functionality as:
“ad and general promotions”
The later account-suspension notice did not identify a separate account-level policy violation, a specific code path, interface element, permission, or behavior that justified suspending the entire publisher account.
Why we believe this finding is mistaken
Blockify has one user-facing purpose: blocking browser-delivered advertising content.
It uses different methods to filter different ad formats, including display, audio, video, pop-up, and promotional advertisements on supported websites and browser-based media players.
Those are not separate products or unrelated services. They are different ways of delivering one outcome: blocking ads.
Based on our review, Blockify does not display or inject advertisements, add affiliate links or cookies, modify search or new-tab settings, send promotional notifications, or bundle an unrelated product or service.
We therefore believe that treating promotional advertising blocked by Blockify as a separate purpose from “ad blocking” is factually incorrect.
Why the account suspension is especially concerning
Removing an extension is serious. Suspending an entire publisher account and removing all associated items is far more serious.
Yet we have not received a specific explanation of any separate account-level conduct that warranted this escalation.
We have asked Google to identify the precise behavior underlying both the item removal and account suspension, conduct a substantive human review, and allow us to address any genuine issue accurately.
What we are doing
We have initiated Google's official appeal process.
We are also reviewing our extension, permissions, and public descriptions to ensure that they consistently and clearly reflect Blockify's single purpose: blocking advertising content.
